Thought Black Butler is About to End? You Couldn't Be More Wrong

Black Butler ending? No, I don’t want that. I want it to be at the front of my mind for ten years, at least! (c) Eren Yeager, probably.

Summary:

  • Black Butler manga has been running for almost 20 years.
  • There are still a lot of unanswered questions in the series that will need several arcs to be explored.
  • The manga will presumably go on for years.

Slight Black Butler manga spoilers ahead!

The Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) manga started so long ago that no one even remembers that moment anymore. Since the anime finished airing back in 2014, and the last thing we got was the Book of the Atlantic in 2017, people have started to forget about the series a bit, so a lot of manga discussions are met with “wait, is it still going?”.

We’re not close to the final arc

Yes, it does go on. And there are no particular hints at it getting to its conclusion any time soon. But fans wouldn’t be fans if they didn’t have any predictions and speculations.

There are still some arcs that are needed in the series, and judging by the number of unsaid and undeveloped things, the manga might continue for years. Fans suggest that an arc about Sebastian and Ciel should follow the current one. Their relationship has always been the true core of the series, and we’re eager to see more.

After the second Ciel was introduced to the story, manga readers had a lot of questions. They want to learn more about him, to see him confront the original Ciel, get more details about their past and see their interactions. One of the main predictions is that we are getting it in one of the upcoming arcs. This plot twist was and still is a big deal, so it’s obvious to suggest that this needs to be expanded on more.

Besides, there’s still the question that was there straight from the beginning: is Sebastian going to devour Ciel’s soul? If he does, game over (probably). If he doesn’t, we’ll need to see where it’s all going and how it influences the story progression and its finale.

More backstories are needed

The servants’ backstories are another thing that’s been asked about for ages. Undertaker and Grell seem like wonderful choices for some more depth in the story, too. There’s hope that one day we’re getting their arcs as well, but we doubt that they’ll receive a lot of chapters.

Since there are still so many unanswered questions, and the manga is getting released on a monthly basis, fans suggest that the earliest the manga will get finished is 3 years. And it looks like this is the most positive prediction, since other ones include such numbers as 5, 8 or even 10 years.
