Tower of God Season 2 Will Be Released in 2024: Any Reason to Worry?

The journey continues. For better or worse.

Summary:

  • The second season will start airing in July 2024.
  • Bam’s task is more noble — to find a girl named Rachel, who raised him but suddenly left to the top of the tower to see the stars.
  • More than a year has passed, but the creators haven't presented a full trailer.

Just recently, the release date for Tower of God (Kami no Tou) Season 2 based on the SIU manhwa was announced. The first season was released back in 2020 and after a long period of time, anime fans will be able to see the continuation of Bam's story. So, the second season will start airing in July 2024. While many met the news with enthusiasm, there were some who tensed up after watching the teaser.

What's Tower of God about?

The action takes place in a huge tower. People are born, live and die there. There are no exits or windows, so most people have no idea what the world outside the tower looks like. Some of them want to climb higher, guided by dreams of something bigger, but all those who dare this serious act are met with trials that get harder with each new floor. Many fail and give up, but there are those who go to their goal without pity for others.

Our protagonist Bam doesn't belong to any of these categories. Bam was born outside the tower — in a cave at its bottom. He remembered nothing of his past and entered the tower on his own free will, an act that is considered unusual in the local world and violates the accepted order of things. Bam is not interested in gaining wealth or power, so he differs from those who advance through the tower in pursuit of selfish goals. His task is more noble — to find a girl named Rachel, who raised him but suddenly left to the top of the tower to see the stars.

Expectations and concerns

Although Tower of God was a highly anticipated 2020 title, in the end fans were rather disappointed with what came out. Some of the complaints were directed towards the graphics and animation, but the plot suffered the most. The problem is that the creators tried to fit 78 manga chapters into just 13 episodes, so all the storylines that weren't directly related to the main story were cut. The first season ends with a cliffhanger when Rachel betrays Bam and pushes him off the tower. The character loses all the progress he has made and starts his journey all over again to find answers. Most likely, the second season will not offer any new solutions and will continue to tell the story from where it left off last time.

Fans are worried that from the first news in 2022 to the announcement of the release date has already passed more than a year, but the creators haven't presented a full trailer, and the teaser is just a set of frames. This leads to speculation about whether the team will have time to prepare a good product, or there is a chance to get unfinished animation. Perhaps there is no reason to worry, as animated trailers often appear a few months before the premiere, when the PR company is in full swing.
