Want to Relax? Here Are 5 Slice-of-Life Isekai Anime You Can Watch Now

If you want escapism, but are tired of generic setups.

Isekai doesn’t always mean the anime should be about action. In many isekai anime — especially nowadays — the story is secondary. These 5 are essentially slice-of-life series, which focus on character interactions.

The Slime Diaries

If you enjoyed That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken), then you can watch its slice-of-life spin-off, The Slime Diaries (Tensura Nikki: Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken).

It adapts the spin-off manga of the series, which focuses on the daily lives of Rimuru and the rest of the cast — if you want to see more of the characters, it’s a solid recommendation.

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear follows Yuna, a dedicated gamer who uses a bear costume in a VRMMO she plays. The reason? The stats it gives are way too good to not use it. One day, she finds herself transported into the world of the game, and she’s still overpowered.

The anime mixes slice-of-life moments with a light-hearted plot with low stakes.

Slime 300

The premise of honing a certain skill for an absurd amount of time to become overpowered is pretty common in isekai. I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level (Slime Taoshite 300-nen, Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita) is one of the most famous examples, and it’s exactly what you think it is just based on the title.

Azusa, the protagonist, is overpowered, but mostly she just wants to live a normal life in another world. There are adventures, but they’re mostly light-hearted. The second season has been confirmed, though it’ll be a while before it comes out.

By the Grace of the Gods

By the Grace of the Gods (Kami-tachi ni Hirowareta Otoko) is a more realistic take on the "reincarnated in another world” premise.

The anime has an extremely slow pace — the protagonist, Ryouma, starts out as a child and doesn’t grow much over the course of the series. That said, the anime is exceptional at showcasing the magic of the world through heartfelt slice-of-life moments.

Fluffy Paradise

The currently airing Fluffy Paradise (Isekai de Mofumofu Nadenade suru Tame ni Ganbattemasu) is a bit controversial. Fans really love Neema and relate to her love for animals — and the first few episodes of the series are really good.

Unfortunately, later, the anime goes onto political tangents way too often, but it’s still worth watching for its comfy bits.
