Why Fans Are So Excited About the First Scene in New Spice and Wolf

It’s actually very important for the story.

Summary:

  • The first scene of the Spice and Wolf remake confirms Holo and Lawrence will end up together.
  • Fans believe it also means the new anime will adapt the entire main story.
  • As such, they expect a sequel announcement after it finishes airing.

The first episode of the Spice and Wolf remake was more or less the same as that of the first anime. Yes, Yarei is a character that people who aren’t familiar with the novels haven’t seen. In the first episode of the 2008 anime, he was replaced by Chloe, who largely had the same role.

Outside of that, though, there’s only one significant difference — the first scene of the first episode.

The scene made many light novel fans incredibly happy — and there are actually reasons for that. It teases the future of Holo and Lawrence, and potentially indicates that the anime will go way further into the source material than the first adaptation did.

This Confirms Holo and Lawrence’s Future

The opening scene of the new Spice and Wolf anime shows Holo talking to a child — talking about her own travels with Lawrence.

It’s pretty obvious that the child is her and Lawrence’s daughter, Myuri. In fact, she appears in the Spice and Wolf LN Volume 18 (which takes place after the main story), as well as in her own spin-off, Wolf and Parchment.

This pretty much confirms for anime-only viewers that Holo and Lawrence will end up together — not that there was much doubt about that. Still, it’s nice to see that being teased.

Fans Believe This Means the New Anime Will Adapt the Whole Story

For the light novel fans, this also indicates that the anime will plan to go way further than the original adaptation.

In fact, some fans think that this scene being added means the anime will fully adapt the main story — which is 17 volumes. That would take roughly 100 episodes at the current pace, though, and studio Passione isn’t known for projects that long.

Others believe the anime will even go further than that, adapting the currently releasing second part of the LNs or Wolf and Parchment. That is very unlikely, though — full adaptation of the original story would be more than enough for many anyway.

The Anime Will Need a Sequel

A huge reason why fans are excited for this remake is it adapting more than the original anime did. In an indirect way, the first scene of the premiere confirms that.

With the anime being scheduled for 25 episodes, fans suspect it will adapt the first 4 or 5 volumes — and, as such, they expect a sequel to be announced at some point.
