He loves Yor a bit too much
Yuri definitely has a somewhat sister complex. Yor wasn’t just a sibling for him, their mother died very early and Yor basically had to be a weird mother figure for Yuri, which only made his attachment to her grow.
This attachment is exactly why so many fans dislike Yuri and even see him as problematic. Yuri is too over-the-top when it comes to Yor, he’s very protective of his sister and the mere idea of her being disappointed in him makes him desperate.
When he finds out Yor has a husband, he gets extremely jealous and starts acting rude towards Loid. Yuri has some sort of one-sided competition with Loid for Yor’s affection and attention, and fans think that a brother isn’t supposed to act this way.
All for a dumb gag?
Yuri’s obsession with Yor has been called problematic so many times, and viewers think the mere reason for this obsession is an uncomfortable gag. But it stopped being funny a season ago. If it was ever funny in the first place.
That’s why Yuri’s fans are very upset about the hate surrounding his character. Yes, they agree that everything connected to Yor doesn’t portray Yuri in the best light, but his personality is not limited to his obsession with his sister.
There are good things about him, too
Yuri is very family-oriented, and this might be the origin of his affection for Yor. But the core idea of this attachment is a nice one: Yuri simply loves his family. He cares about Yor so much that he tries to hide the darkest sides of himself to protect her from dangers.
On top of that, Yuri possesses great intelligence, and even being a running gag doesn’t prevent him from being one of the smartest characters in the series. And Yor even mentioned that it was Yuri who taught her a lot of things when they were young.
Fans are hoping that Yuri’s story in Spy x Family will go somewhere and that he might even find a woman and a possible future wife, so that his attention will shift to her instead of Yor.
Perhaps this will also affect his relationship with Loid and these two will finally solve their issues and become closer. After all, this is a series about family, so there has to be a happy ending for everyone, right?
