Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) is not the type of series that focuses on romance heavily, but there are still some hints of it in the series.
As it goes practically for any fandom, there are dozens of ships in Frieren, too. But there are three of them that seem to be the most popular and loved by the fans.
Frieren and Himmel
It’s obvious that these two are number one for the fandom. They’re the closest thing we have to canon, and the chemistry between them is undeniable.
Himmel is so smitten with Frieren that it’s impossible not to adore him. Despite his love for the elven mage, he never pushes her, never tries anything inappropriate, he just gives her time and all the care he can muster.
And fans are confident: Frieren canonically reciprocated his feelings. She might not have fully understood them herself, but there was definitely something going on.
Fern and Stark
Fern and Stark are a couple that has all the chances of becoming canon in the future. Moreover, fans are sure that this is exactly what will happen. The story just has to end with these two becoming a unit.
The interactions between them are absolutely entertaining and adorable. They banter constantly but there’s certain care between them that cannot be denied. Fern and Stark look like the kind of couple who would fight for 10 days straight but then become a complete menace when any of them is in danger.
Fern and Stark had a lot of absolutely beautiful moments such as the ballroom dance and them trying to find the right present for each other’s birthdays.
Kanne and Lawine
Last but not least, Kanne and Lawine. You can feel the sparks between them every second of their screen time. Even the first time we see them on the show, they’re fighting, and they keep doing that 90% of the time we see them together.
But behind the banter, playful hatred and constant fighting, we see two people who genuinely care about each other. Kanne and Lawine stick together and work as a duo. They don’t want to leave each other’s side, they are so efficient as a unit that it’s surprising.
Kanne and Lawine seem to be complete opposites, and this is what makes their relationship even better. This is the dynamic that so many fans absolutely adore, and it works in Frieren, too.
