5 Anime So Good They Are Perfect Reboot Material

One can dream, right?

It seems we’ve entered an era of reboots, remakes and new takes on older manga and anime. One may argue it is a good thing: the nostalgia train rides ahead full speed, with some of the most beloved old shows, like Urusei Yatsura and Shaman King, getting remade for modern audiences.

However, there are many shows that might as well deserve to be rebooted, but haven't been yet. Here are some of them.

Pandora Hearts

This is a very obvious one. The original anime isn’t bad per se, but it gets confusing at points — and for a good reason. As it was being made, the manga was only around one third of its final length, and the show didn’t even get to the main plot! Needless to say, the anime ended right before the source material got to its best part. A real shame, and a modern adaptation would help it (but it would need way more than 2 cours). Just keep some of the music from the old one. It’s awesome.

Soul Eater

People really like to bring this one up whenever someone complains about anime original endings. It seems like at this point, most of the people who still talk about the show were not very happy with how it diverged from the manga, skipping some arcs and making an original ending. There is a solution: a reboot, staying more true to the source material. If the aforementioned Shaman King can get that treatment, why can’t Soul Eater? And with Fire Force (Enen no Shouboutai) getting more seasons, it seems that we can actually hope for this one, as it’s also a work by Atsushi Ookubo.

Baccano!

This one technically does not need a remake — a sequel would be perfectly fine — but it deserves to be mentioned regardless. The light novels have 22 volumes at this point, while the anime adapts the first three, with some elements from the fourth one. The reason we’re putting it on the remake list is because one of the things Baccano! is most known for — its confusing achronological order — is actually mostly anime-exclusive. The novels, while still having non-linear elements in them, are mostly straightforward.

Yona of the Dawn

Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) is a shoujo anime that got a two-cour adaptation and went completely off the radar after that, other than releasing two OVA episodes. While it was a hit in the community, it suffered from adapting, basically, just the manga prologue. With the manga still ongoing, there might be hope for a full adaptation remake after it ends.

Tokyo Ghoul

Yeah, the anime ended a few years ago. The adaptation was a huge mess, however: season two is its own thing, then :re picks up the sequel manga, failing to explain what happened in the second half of the original one, and rushes through 181 chapters in 24 episodes. With how beloved the manga is, a proper adaptation is long overdue.
