5 Anime to Look Forward to in Winter 2024 That Aren't Sequels

Yes, sequels are cool, but it doesn’t mean new anime don’t deserve to be hyped.

There are so many sequels coming out nowadays that fans may not find any time to watch all the new shows. That doesn’t mean they are not worth watching, however. Many new projects that are coming out next season are worth checking out. Let’s take a look at some of the most hyped projects.

Delicious in Dungeon

Fans have been dying for Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi) to get an adaptation. With its announcement back in 2022, fans have been expecting it for a while. They’re finally getting it next season — and it is animated by studio Trigger. While it may sound weird for them to animate a comedic, non-action series, this wouldn’t be the first time for them. Fans have the perfect right to be so excited after waiting for so long.

Solo Leveling

People expecting Solo Leveling have a right to be cautiously optimistic — after the less than stellar reception of some other manhwa adaptations a few years ago. However, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be excited for the series: there is a reason it is one of the most popular web novels and manhwas. With many famous staff members involved, the anime is definitely worth watching.

Metallic Rouge

Metallic Rouge is the most recent anime original project announced by studio Bones. With fewer of them being released every year, every new one is potentially worth watching. Metallic Rouge, however, is interesting in another aspect: it’s written by Yutaka Izubuchi, one of the RahXephon creators, which is perhaps one of the weirdest anime out there. If anything, it’s worth watching only because of that.

Chained Soldier

While there are concerns that Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave) will be excessively censored during its TV run, it is still worth looking at. It’s an action-fantasy manga with a lot of fanservice, which is not something we get often nowadays. With the author of Akame ga Kill! being behind the original, many fans are hyped regardless of any potential issues.

Sengoku Youko

Sengoku Youko’s PV showed that there might actually be hope for Satoshi Mizukami’s manga. With concerns for its production after the release of Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer (Hoshi no Samidare), fans’ fears were justified — yet the trailer showed competent animation and amazing music. With three consecutive cours announced, it might look like a bit of a commitment, but it will be absolutely worth it.
