5 Manga and Anime Couples That Appeared Out of Nowhere

We don’t buy it, sorry.

Not every character has to have a romantic storyline, you know? But it seems like some manga and anime writers disagree. Don’t get us wrong, we do love a good old romance, but just like any other story point, it has to be written properly. And there are times when it’s not.

  1. Sasuke and Sakura — Naruto

The couple that is a regular on all “Worst anime couples” lists, and fans think that it’s more than deserved.

It’s not that there weren’t any hints, Sakura was obsessed with Sasuke and the series didn’t try to hide it. But believing that Sasuke could reciprocate feels like such a weird idea. Them ending up together seemed like a way of making shippers happy, and while we really love fanservice, we just don’t buy it, sorry.

  1. Nezuko and Zenitsu — Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)

Nezuko and Zenitsu ending up together feels like the weirdest thing that happened in the Demon Slayer manga. It’s obvious that Zenitsu had a major crush on Nezuko from the very first time he met her. But Nezuko feeling the same way? Doesn’t feel right.

We don’t really see the chemistry between these two, and feel like their relationship had to be explored more. And even then, these two would have been better as friends.

  1. Armin and Annie — Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

Let’s leave Mikasa and Eren alone for a second and talk about another couple. Armin and Annie have a pretty big fanbase, and we understand why this ship might be interesting. But there was almost zero development in the series.

That’s why when it was revealed that these two felt something for each other, we felt like we were reading a piece of fanfiction. Don’t get us wrong, this is a peculiar couple, but we can’t help but feel that this relationship wasn’t developed enough.

  1. Shinn and Lunamaria — Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED Destiny)

 - image 4

The fact that they became a couple only a few episodes after Shinn’s other love interest dies makes the situation even weirder. He was in his mourning stage, how could he fall for someone else already?

On top of that, Shinn killed Luna’s sister a mere episode ago, what romance are we even talking about? Fans feel like this relationship feels extremely forced and out of nowhere, and has zero chemistry.

  1. Ren and Iron Maiden Jeanne — Shaman King

There was nothing leading to these two becoming a couple and yet they get married and have a son together. Where did that come from, you may ask. And we have to admit that we have absolutely no idea.

Ren was even absolutely disgusted when the Iron Maiden kissed him to revive him. If this is the beginning of a wonderful love story, then we don’t really understand romance.
