Heaven Official's Blessing (Tian Guan Cifu) is a Chinese BL novel series written by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. It’s got two seasons of the anime adaptation, and we hope that this is not the last time we see these characters animated.

But what makes it even better is that the main leads are a literal god and his dedicated follower, who’s the Ghost King. One of them is supposed to be kind and loving, while the other one feels terrifying and dangerous.
The dynamic between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng is outstanding. It’s full of love, support, passion, humor, trauma, respect, and many more things. There’s just everything you want to see in a good love story, and it’s incredible. 
- Character Design
This goes mostly for the anime adaptation, of course, but we couldn’t forget about the way Xie Lian and Hua Cheng look. They are two extremely handsome men with hair so long and so outworldly that you just wish they were real people so you could ask them for a shampoo recommendation.
Everyone in Heaven Official’s Blessing is stunning, and it’s physically difficult to take your eyes off the screen.
- Xie Lian
A lot of fans say that the main protagonist is actually the reason they love the series so much. He’s kind, he’s bold, he’s compassionate, he’s strong and sometimes childish. The fact that he found it in himself to feel love and sympathy for a horrible ghost says a lot about him.
Although Xie Lian is 800 years old, he doesn’t have everything figured out, and he keeps learning with each chapter and each episode, and fans found it endearing. He’s truly a magnificent character.
- Worldbuilding
Heaven Official’s Blessing is not just a love story, it has a lot going on. There are a lot of ghosts, monsters and other creatures that can fascinate you with their features and habits.
There are various locations in the series, and all of them will stun you with their beauty. The attention to detail in the series is incredible, and you just want to learn as much as you can about this world.
- It’s a BL Fantasy
BL series aren’t something as mainstream as battle shounens, and it might be challenging to find the right one. Especially one that’s not just romance, but has other things to offer.
And Heaven Official’s Blessing is exactly like that. It’s a well-written fantasy story with a taste of darkness and romance. It’s basically one of a kind, and we can’t help but admire it for that.
