Fans are tired of anime that end with a confession.
If there’s one issue fans have with romance anime, it’s that a lot of the time, it takes until the end of the story for the main couple to get together. That, to many, feels unrealistic.
Still, there are anime where the main couple gets together way earlier — here are some of them.
Tonikawa
The very premise of TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You (Tonikaku Kawaii) is that the main character ends up married to a girl he barely knows.
They have to learn how to live married life together, and the anime is very sweet and wholesome. Fans were very excited about it receiving multiple OVAs and a second season.
Horimiya
Among modern romantic comedy series, Horimiya is more of an exception. In it, the characters dating each other is part of the premise, not the goal — and the anime actually adapts the main story fully.
It skips a lot of the chapters that provide little to no development, though, some of which are included in the spin-off Horimiya: The Missing Pieces.
Banished From The Hero's Party
Despite having a seemingly generic light novel name, Banished From The Hero's Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside (Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasareta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita) is actually a good series.
It’s not even an isekai: it’s a rather slow-paced romance-adventure with likable main characters. Still, the main couple is established very early on.
His and Her Circumstances
A classic shoujo anime from the 90s, His and Her Circumstances (Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou), also known as Kare Kano, is a very realistic drama series.
The characters have to navigate their personal lives and secrets, while also being entangled in a complicated love triangle. The anime is definitely worth watching, even though it never got the sequel it needed.
Rascal Does Not Dream
In the very first arc of Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai), you get the two main characters officially becoming a couple. They have a very good chemistry, and some fans even feel the anime should have ended there.
Further arcs are also good — while the anime sometimes includes harem elements, it never actually fully plays into them. The main couple stays together throughout the entire thing, and the rest is the characters dealing with their own psychological and social issues posing as something supernatural.
