Do you ever start watching an anime without knowing its status only to learn that it’s been dead or on hiatus for years? One of the biggest disappointments of the century!
It’s even worse when you start watching a new series confident that there will be a couple more seasons to come, but then it gets canceled. So let’s talk about some of the series that never received a desired sequel.
This figure skating anime became a total hit back in 2016 when it was released. It also became a big deal for MAPPA as it was one of the first major projects for the studio.
With all the hype surrounding the series, a sequel seemed like a sure thing, but something went wrong and we never saw another chapter of the story.
It follows Yuuri, a Japanese figure skater who gets noticed by a Russian star, Victor. The older man offers to become Yuuri’s mentor and the skater agrees.
Although this anime wasn’t released that long ago (2022), fans have completely lost any hope of ever seeing Season 2.
The anime follows a group of friends, forced to participate in a peculiar game where it is revealed that one of them has a significant debt. With each round of the game, their friendship is tested, secrets are revealed, and mind games ensue.
This anime came out more than 10 years ago, so it’s fair to say that a sequel will hardly ever come out. Still, there’s hope for a remake somewhere in the future because fans are still upset that Season 2 never existed.
Deadman Wonderland is a prison-amusement park that Ganta’s class was supposed to visit when all of them were massacred by a mysterious man in red. Framed for the incident and sentenced to death, Ganta is sent to this mysterious jail.
Fans are especially upset by this one, since Gangsta had the worst possible cliffhanger. Imagine never getting a sequel after that!
Worick Arcangelo and Nicolas Brown are two "Handymen" who work for both the mob and the police. One of the jobs leaves them with another gang member, Alex. Just in time to face a new threat their city is experiencing. The one they can’t just ignore.
It’s still very puzzling to us why such a series was never finished because it had all the chances to become really great. And it was great for some time. But two seasons in, the anime just stopped airing.
The good news is that the manga has just ended, so if you’re eager to experience this series, now is the best time.
Hiyori was a normal middle school student until the accident that gave her a peculiar ability: her soul can now slip out of her body. Her life changes even more when she meets Yato, a minor god, who dreams of having a huge following.
A sequel, please?
