A Sign of Affection (Yubisaki to Renren) Season 1 finished airing on March 23 with its Episode 12. Despite the fact that this is not the end of the story and the manga goes further than that, the last episode felt like a goodbye.
So, is there going to be another season?
No Season 2?
A Sign of Affection manga is still ongoing, so no one really knows how the story will end. But Season 1 doesn’t cover everything that’s been told in the original source so far. Which means there’s content for at least another season of the anime. The only question is whether it will happen.
It was upsetting that the finale of Season 1 didn’t bring us the Season 2 announcement, but there’s still some hope that it will come in the future. A Sign of Affection did really well this Winter season, the scores are high, the fans are satisfied. Some even call it the best shoujo anime in 2024.
Still, fans admit that it doesn’t look like A Sign of Affection will get a sequel. Such shoujo anime are often forgotten after the first season. Anime adaptations are made to boost manga sales, and when this goal is reached, the anime is no longer needed.
There’s worry that this is exactly what’s happening with A Sign of Affection.
The episode felt like a goodbye
Episode 12 does feel like a good stopping point, indeed. Yuki and Itsuomi are finally together, and there are no secrets anymore. Side characters also got their moments to shine.
Rin and Kyouya started their romance, Oushi seems to be dealing with his feelings for Yuki, Emma decided to give Shin a chance. It feels like everyone is heading towards their happy endings.
All the conflicts that were introduced in the season are resolved. That’s why if the anime was to end somewhere except its proper manga ending, this is the best time to do so. This makes it a somewhat open ending, promising a lot of happiness for the series’ characters.
Right now it feels too intentional for it to be just a coincidence. It’s like Ajia-do (the studio producing the anime) never planned to make another season of A Sign of Affection, so they decided to wrap things up in the first season.
However, there is a small chance that they didn’t know how well the anime would be received. They might have decided to do Season 1 this way, so that it would be a great stand-alone project even if Season 2 never comes.
That’s why there’s hope that the studio will change their mind about a sequel now that the anime has become successful. Fans will be very excited to see where the story goes in the future. And we hope they’ll get that chance one day.
