A Sign of Affection Mangaka Talks About Season 2 of the Anime

Is there still hope after all?

Summary:

  • A Sign of Affection Season 1 finished airing.
  • Season 2 hasn’t been announced yet.
  • The author of the series mentions Season 2 on her X page.

A Sign of Affection (Yubisaki to Renren) Season 1 finished airing a few weeks ago, and fans are still a little bit salty that there has been no announcement of the second season.

The series did really great, especially for a shoujo anime, and viewers would really like to learn more about the story.

Chances Are Slim

Despite the great success of A Sign of Affection, most fans thought that the chances of it ever getting a sequel were extremely low. Episode 12 truly felt like the last one, the anime tried to resolve all the conflicts and added some details that weren’t in the manga at that part of the story.

Shin and Emma went on a date in Episode 12, while they did it a bit later in the manga, and Yuki got her passport, which is a very major story thing, since her not being able to travel with Itsuomi is a big issue.

To cut it short, there were multiple hints that Episode 12 was indeed a farewell, and the animation studio was making Season 1 without having Season 2 in mind. That’s why they were so careful with the adaptation and made it feel like a great standalone project with an open ending.

The Author Brings Back Hope

The most magical thing happened on April 9, 2024, when the author of A Sign of Affection manga, Suu Morishita, posted something interesting on her X (formerly Twitter) account.

In her post, she mentions that she would love to see Season 2 of the anime adaptation and asks the manga fans for their opinion. Do we even need to say what that opinion is?

Of course, it might mean nothing, and we shouldn’t take it as an official announcement of A Sign of Affection Season 2, but it most certainly gives fans hope that such a thing might be possible in the future.

If Suu Morishita doesn’t mind her manga being adapted further, all that’s needed is for an animation studio to be just as eager. Since the first season was a great success, the studios must be aware that it’s not such a bad idea to keep going.

The author’s message gave fans hope again, and this time they feel like they’re one step closer to getting Season 2. It’s too early to say whether it’ll ever happen, but if it does, it will be a great day for shoujo fans.

Would you like Season 2 to happen?
