A Sign of Affection’s Realistic Pacing Feels Exactly Right

It finally happened! Everybody, stay calm.

Episode 6 spoilers ahead!

Summary:

  • A lot of romantic developments in anime are either too fast or too slow.
  • A Sign of Affection works exceptionally well in this area.
  • Yuki and Itsuomi got together in Episode 6, and it’s curious to learn what’s next for them.

When it comes to romantic anime series, pacing and relationship development are usually the first things that suffer. Sometimes two lovesick souls get together straight away, and sometimes the viewers have to wait until the end of a season to see minor romantic development.

But A Sign of Affection (Yubisaki to Renren) is exceptionally good at keeping the balance with such things.

Instant attraction that needed more development

The relationship between Yuki and Itsuomi might feel sudden because there was an instant chemistry between these two, and Yuki gushed over the man after seeing him just a few times. And yet, it’s not as sudden as you may think.

It took Yuki some time to properly understand that what she was feeling for Itsuomi was love. There was definitely attraction at first sight, but this deeper feeling needed more time.

Both of them spent a lot of time with each other, doing simple everyday things as well as having heart-to-heart conversations. And Episode 6 finally brought us some exciting news: Yuki and Itsuomi are a couple now.

Just the right pace

It took them 6 episodes to get together, and this is neither too fast nor too slow. It didn’t happen in the first episodes, so that you could actually feel the chemistry between these two, and the series doesn’t force you to wait until the final seconds of Season 1 to make Yuki and Itsuomi confess.

This way the relationship between the main leads doesn’t feel forced and out of nowhere, and there’s still a lot of space for future developments. Yes, they’re in love and together, but they still have a lot of things to sort out, like the fact that Itsuomi is only learning sign language. Or Emma and Oushi, who, as we think, will try to interfere in their relationship in some way.

This new development in Episode 6 was pleasantly surprising for the fans. They were rooting for Yuki and Itsuomi to become an actual couple, since it was obvious that their attraction was mutual.

Still, we all know how a lot of romantic series work, that’s why a lot of fans expected them to become a couple a mere episode away from the season finale. But A Sign of Affection knows what it’s doing and what its viewers want, and this is amazing.

It also provides some sort of mystery and space for future developments. Yuki and Itsuomi are together now, so what is there to talk about anymore? We don’t know for now, but we’re super eager to learn.
