Acro Trip is a manga series written and illustrated by Yone Sawata. An anime adaptation of the series was announced back in December 2022, and it’s scheduled to premiere sometime in 2024. Although we don’t know the exact release date, we know other things, and it’s time to talk about this project!
Studio Voil is animating the series, and it looks like the studio is brand new, since there aren’t any released projects listed as their works. It’s always exciting to experience something new, don’t you think?
A magical girl fan that had to become evil
Acro Trip follows an otaku girl, Chizuko, who’s the most devoted fan of Berry Blossom, the magical girl who protects the city. Chizuko is obsessed with her hero and wants only the best for her.
However, the battle between the magical hero and an evil organization stopped being exciting long ago, so it feels like no one cares about Berry anymore. That’s why Chizuko sees only one way to make her idol popular again: she has to become the new evil to give Berry another chance to shine as a hero.
It’s been more than a year since the anime announcement, and we haven’t gotten much information about the adaptation ever since, but the new visual is finally out. And judging by the visual, the character design is going to be stunning. What is that cute but grumpy looking cat anyway?
New anime trend?
The first thing that came to fans’ minds after reading the synopsis of Acro Trip is its resemblance to Gushing over Magical Girls (Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete). A fan of magical girls goes down a dark path? It does sound familiar.
Which made fans wonder if it’s going to be a new anime trend, since Gushing over Magical Girls has already proven to be a big hit this season, and Acro Trip also looks quite interesting for now.
We used to have dozens of isekai anime each season (okay, we still do), then otome villainesses became popular, and now magical girls seem to be the next choice for the current thing.
And to be honest, we don’t mind. Magic and pretty girls always sound like fun, and when you add humor into the mixture, it only gets better, so we’ll definitely be here to watch Acro Trip when it’s finally released.
