Attack on Titan’s Mikasa Dies Pure? Or Are You Just Trying to Cope?

Attack on Titan’s Mikasa Dies Pure? Or Are You Just Trying to Cope?

What does it all have to do with Jean?

Summary:

  • Relationship between Mikasa and Eren is one of the main issues in the final season of Attack on Titan.
  • The end credits scene shows Mikasa with a child and a man who is likely her husband.
  • Enraged EreMika shippers come up with their own ideas.

Mikasa and her relationship with Eren have become one of the central points in the Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) finale. Some people are happy to see the proof of their favorite pairing being somewhat canon and call them inspirational, some detest anything happening in the final episode with a burning passion. But it feels like even those who truly enjoyed the ending are not fully satisfied with everything it offered.

As we may see from the end credits scenes, Mikasa still visits Eren’s grave long after he’s gone. And one of such moments portrays her with a kid in her arms and a man behind her back. Although we’re not given any real proof of this theory, the implication is very obvious: this man is Mikasa’s husband and the child is theirs.

Besides, the man resembles Jean a lot. He has the same haircut and haircolor, the height and body also look like his. Moreover, he’s had the biggest crush on Mikasa since the first season of the anime, so it would just make a lot of sense for him to want to marry her. On top of that, he was friends with Eren, so he would be really understanding of Mikasa’s wish to attend his grave. Let’s be honest, not a lot of men would support their wife constantly visiting the grave of the love of her life. And join her in doing so.

Do you think the man next to Mikasa was Jean?

What’s the problem, then?

The thing is that the most hardcore EreMika shippers deny all the evidence we have due to their wish for Mikasa to be forever loyal to Eren. They can’t stand the idea of Mikasa finding another man (Eren Yeager liked that) and especially creating a family with him.

Shippers don’t want Mikasa to move on from Eren, and the idea that she might makes them come up with different theories like “kids were adopted”, “she died a virgin”, “it could be anyone, not Jean”.

These claims frustrate not only the rest of the fandom, but Mikasa and Eremika fans, too. It doesn’t matter how much they want Mikasa to end up with Eren, they do have respect for both of the characters and want them to be happy. If Mikasa never finds joy in anything except for Eren, it means that her life ended with him, and it’s not fair to her. She loved Eren, that’s for sure. But it’s time to move on, and from the last pages of the manga and end credits of the anime, we see that she did that. To a point, of course, since she kept wearing the scarf that Eren gave her until the day she died. But moved on.
