Best Anime Fights of 2023, and Why We Love Them

It’s time to remember some epic moments!

2023 has been a pretty good year for the anime community. We’ve experienced the finale of such a phenomenon as Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin), we’ve received the sequels to other anime giants such as Vinland Saga, Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) and Jujutsu Kaisen.

New incredible series have also joined the chat, and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren), The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto), Hell’s Paradise (Jigokuraku) and Undead Unluck have all shown to be extremely promising.

But what we really love about all of these series is some epic fights that force us to move to the edge of our seats and root for our favorite characters, anxiously wanting to learn their fates. And these are exactly the moments we’d like to discuss.

1. Yuji and Todo vs. Mahito — Jujutsu Kaisen

This one was a true nail-biter. Mahito did enough damage for the series and its characters, and it was his time to go. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 showed us that no one is safe, and while we did understand that Yuji couldn’t die like that, Todo is not immune to a sudden death. Seeing Mahito defeated was incredible on so many levels! First of all, how good were the snowy visuals of him trying to escape Yuji? Stunning direction! And the moral satisfaction of his defeat made the moment even better.

2. Stark vs. Linie — Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren)

When a pretty girl is involved in a fight, it always makes it two times better, change our minds. But really, Frieren is not a type of series where every other episode gives you chills because of its phenomenal action, that’s why when it finally does, it feels so good. When you see the first blood, your heart just skips a beat due to how worried you are about Stark.

3. Snake vs. Thorfinn — Vinland Saga

Although the second season of Vinland Saga is more famous for its philosophy and great character development, and not fights, it doesn’t mean that it cannot provide when it comes to epic battles. And this one is a good example. The suspense, the flashbacks that interfere with the fight, the emotion behind it, and the absolutely incredible soundtrack. Such a great experience!

4. Eren vs. the Alliance — Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

The finale of Attack on Titan was packed with spectacular action, so it’s really difficult to say which exact moment made you go “wow”. The battle was intense, and the stakes were high. Seeing all of the previous Titan Shifters added nostalgia to the mixture of feelings, and the stunning visuals and animation elevated the entire thing to another level.

5. Tanjiro vs. Hantengu — Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)

Hantengu was not an easy opponent to beat and by the end of the season, you just wanted to see him finally defeated. So thank you, Tanjiro. Demon Slayer fights have always been known for their spectacular cinematics, and this one is no exception. Seeing Tanjiro this pissed is also a truly special thing, and we just love when he’s so full of emotions.
