Recently, a curious thing about the adaptation of Bleach was announced. Starting from the third season of Thousand-Year Blood War adaptation, the anime will move to a new studio. The newly-established Pierrot Films will take care of the anime, which makes fans wonder what is going on with it.
The New Studio Is Basically the Same as the Old One
To be fair, fans aren't really upset about this studio change. The reason for that is simple: Bleach isn't really changing studios. Pierrot Films is a newly established department within Pierrot, who has been working on Bleach since the beginning. There won't be any art style change or anything, and most of the staff will likely remain the same.
With how popular the Thousand-Year Blood War anime has been — especially compared to the same arc from the manga, which was heavily disliked — the adaptation is practically the best thing Bleach fans could have asked for. So, of course, they would be opposed to any changes, but a sudden studio change is not what is happening here.
This Doesn't Mean Much for Bleach Fans
In fact, Pierrot Films is going to take care of Bleach, as well as of some projects in the future, presumably. The new studio will focus on high-quality projects — like Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War — and continue producing such series in the future.
This doesn't really mean anything for Bleach fans, though.
The anime will continue being produced as usual. It does show that Pierrot executives care about the recent changes in the anime industry and are going to switch to modern multi-season format from — they are known for long-runners such as Bleach and Naruto.
There's no speculation on what the new studio is going to produce after they're done with Bleach. However, some otaku are optimistic about their work: Pierrot isn't a studio that has many fans (due to their treatment of Tokyo Ghoul and long-running shounens, with the latter being full of fillers). Perhaps the Pierrot Films can change their reputation.
What Can We Expect?
Fans are not quite convinced, though, that the new studio will work out. The new Bleach seasons are good, yes, but the interview with the executive promises work that is both fast and high-quality.
These things don't really go together in the anime industry, and when they do, we get situations like the recent series of controversies regarding MAPPA. However, we can't really say anything about the new studio before we see any work they produce after Bleach — and it might take a few years to get that.
