Blue Lock Fans Worried There’s Not Enough Time to Fix Season 2 Animation

Should we be concerned about the way the series will look?

Summary:

  • Blue Lock Season 2 is scheduled for October 2024.
  • There are just 6 months between the movie and Season 2.
  • Fans are worried it’s not enough time to work on the season properly.

2024 is a good year for Blue Lock fans. First, the Episode Nagi movie was released on April 19, and now we’ve finally got the release date for Season 2 ― October 2024. The exact date hasn’t been revealed yet, but it’s still good to know at least the month.

The news about the October release got fans in mixed feelings. They’re naturally happy about a sequel and want it to come out as soon as possible, and the Fall season is not as far away as you may think. But still, there are a couple of concerns.

Season 1 Had Animation Issues

Blue Lock Season 1 was undoubtedly successful. MyAnimeList score of 8.27 says it all: the anime is loved by the fans. But we can’t deny that there were some issues with the animation quality in the second part of the season.

Season 1 finished airing in March 2023, so there should be plenty of time to work on the animation, but we can’t forget the Episode Nagi movie that was also released earlier this year. The animation staff was hardly working on the second season until the movie was done.

That’s why even if it feels like there’s a lot of time between the seasons and enough of it to produce a high-quality project, in reality, there isn’t. There are only 6 months between the release of the movie and Season 2, and fans are anxious that it might affect the animation quality of the sequel.

Although Season 1 didn’t look terrible, viewers started noticing some issues in the second half of it. It was held back by the usage of stills, the consistency of both the animation and designs became worse, and it felt like the biggest effort went into animating characters’ hair than actually exciting moments.

Season 2 Is in Danger of These Issues, Too

Both Season 1 and the movie were animated by 8bit, and the studio has a couple more big projects this year, such as currently-airing Laid-Back Camp Season 3 and upcoming Season 2 of Shy. Which means the studio must be rather busy.

That’s why a number of fans have been hoping for a studio change for the second season of Blue Lock. They know it can produce incredible anime, and the success of the aforementioned Laid-Back Camp is the proof, but perhaps they should learn to leave a bit more production time for their staff.
