It wasn’t as good as they wanted it to be.
Summary:
- Bucchigiri?! finished airing last week.
- The series was enjoyable but far from impressive.
- Fans wanted more character development.
Bucchigiri?! Season 1 finished airing on April 6, 2024 with Episode 12, so it’s finally time to talk about the series as a whole. And the anime was many things during its run, one of them being disappointing.
Fans admit that Bucchigiri is an overall enjoyable show. It has a lot of likable characters, the fights are entertaining and the character design is stunning. And don’t get us started on the music of the anime, especially the opening and ending themes. They are incredible!
Lack of Character Development
Although the series has a number of great characters, indeed, the way it approaches their development leaves a lot to be desired.
Arajin was shallow and annoying for the most part of the series. He was the thing that was criticized the most from the very beginning of Bucchigiri. His “I have to lose my virginity” gag became unfunny very quickly, and it was really challenging to sympathize with him.
Of course, Arajin did get better in the finale, but some fans think it was too late. Bucchigiri is a 12-episode show, so it cannot afford to waste time on unimportant things and characters, and yet this is exactly what it does, while forgetting about its main protagonist.
Poor Priorities
A big number of side characters also makes the series worse. It tries to pay attention to them and show their development, but as we’ve said, the series doesn’t have enough time to do so. That’s why everyone loses: main characters and side ones. No one was handled perfectly.
Arajin and Matakara’s relationship is the core conflict of the series, which is why fans expected it to be the center of attention. However, the anime is drowning in its side characters and small conflicts, causing the most important aspect of Bucchigiri to fade a little.
Episode 12 gives more perspective of Arajin and Matakara’s friendship and even provides a couple of flashbacks, but it was too late to do so in the series finale. It’s upsetting that there wasn’t more buildup beforehand.
The relationship between Senya and Ichiya also suffered a lot. The final episode makes them especially interesting, and viewers can’t help but feel disappointed that the genies weren’t given more time.
Still, it’s impossible to say that Bucchigiri was a total disaster, the series had its moments and was a nice watch. But it’s packed with wasted potential and questionable storytelling that upset fans with the lack of depth.
