Cyberpunk Edgerunners is a cyberpunk (duh) anime based on a game by CD Projekt Red. It follows a teenage street kid who loses everything and makes the decision to continue his path on the other side of the law and become an edgerunner — a cyborg criminal ready for anything if there's a satisfying reward.
The anime received extremely positive reviews and was met with a level of surprise because adaptations based on video games (especially live action ones) are not often praised. However, it looks like this particular project might be just the exception we all needed. Cyberpunk Edgerunners came out in September 2022, so there's been plenty of time for the fans to watch it and discuss it in every way possible.
You might have been able to avoid any specific plot point spoilers, but we all know for now that the story is going to break your heart and the ending will make you weep like a little kid. Which leads to the fans' question: are these emotional spoilers enough to ruin the entire series?
Of course, all types of spoilers take away some parts of the experience from you. But fans seem to be absolutely confident that Cyberpunk Edgerunners has so much more to offer. It doesn't matter if you only know the vibe of the ending or if you're among the unlucky ones who've seen crucial scenes of the last episode, the anime is still an exceptional watch.
The animation, the dialogs, the artstyle — all of that has received great praise from the viewers. Some fans even claim that the series made them buy the Cyberpunk 2077 game because they weren't ready to say goodbye to the brutal world of Night City.
Some fans mention that knowing exactly what happened at the end made the impact of the last couple of episodes less great, but even they suggest you watch the series because the amount of care and love put into the production of Cyberpunk Edgerunners surprised them to no end.
Viewers agree that with this particular anime it's the journey that counts and not the endgame. Yeah, you might know that you're going to need a few tissues closer to the end of this series, but the character development and cruel but beautiful cyberpunk world will make you enjoy the show as if you've never seen a frame of it before.
