In the world of Chainsaw Man, the line between good and evil is already pretty blurred. But what if Fujimoto makes Denji completely lose his mind, making it even more complicated?
The new chapter is brutal
Chapter 152 has just been released, and it got fans thinking about the future of Denji and his development even more. He seems even more unstable and heartbroken than before. So maybe it’s time he quits trying to be a good guy and finally does whatever he wants to?
After having his house set on fire and all his pets murdered, Denji loses it. He said that he was finally happy only a couple of chapters ago, and now the last bits of his “family” are gone.
Denji has suffered through so much loss, heartbreak and suffering that it’s impossible to believe there still might be a human part that wants peace anymore.
Chapter 152 does an exceptionally good job when it comes to portraying what type of monster Denji could become. He is frighteningly brutal and says he enjoys the pain. Denji also pushes Nayuta away and tells her she shouldn’t be around him anymore.
It might be the beginning of his villain arc
Broken, devastated, alone, full of anger and desire for revenge. If this is not how villains are made, then we don’t know what is.
The entire chapter was extremely brutal and heart-wrenching. It's painful to see Denji like that, and we don’t want him to keep getting hurt. Fans are sure that Denji is tired of this too, and that’s why they feel like he might want to choose a different path and become the bad guy.
After being hurt so many times, Denji would probably want to bring pain on others instead of being the target of it. And this would make a lot of sense.
Still, a number of fans don’t think that he’ll ever become a villain. An anti-hero or an unhinged person? Yes. But a villain? Hardly so.
After all, the desire to avenge your pets and kill the bad guys is a natural one, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that after dealing with them he’ll want to hurt others. But judging by Denji’s current state, everything seems possible. Even the darkest and most twisted outcomes.
We don’t really know whether we’d like to see a villain Denji or not, but we can’t deny that this idea has something appealing. Watching a good character being broken and deciding to inflict pain on others has a bizarre beauty to it. And, moreover, it feels like a very Chainsaw Man type of thing.
