Crunchyroll’s Gods’ Game We Play Anime Reveals Official Trailer: Generic or Worth a Try?

Are you capable of outplaying a god?

Summary:

  • Gods’ Game We Play is an upcoming adventure fantasy anime.
  • It’s scheduled for April 2024.
  • A new trailer is out.
  • The premise of the series sounds rather generic, but fans don’t mind for now.

Gods' Game We Play (Kami wa Game ni Ueteiru) is an adventure fantasy light novel series written by Kei Sazane and illustrated by Toiro Tomose. An anime adaptation was announced back in 2022, but the wait is almost over, since the series is scheduled for April 2024.

“Play of the Gods” is the ultimate game of wits, created by gods who have a little bit too much free time. People who have received a special power called Arise are known as Apostles and are allowed to compete in the game.

Humans lose the right to challenge the gods after three total failures, but those who achieve 10 victories have “cleared” the games. However, there’s yet to be a victor. But can our protagonist, Fay, become one?

Liden Films (Insomniacs After School, Tokyo Revengers) is working on the anime adaptation of Gods’ Games We Play, and it’s directed by Tatsuya Shiraishi. The main cast has also been revealed, and Akari Kitou (Demon Slayer, Chained Soldier) and Nobunaga Shimazaki (Jujutsu Kaisen, Blue Lock) are voicing the main protagonists.

Official trailer is out

The new trailer gives you a great look at the upcoming anime. It introduces the rules of the games and the main characters of the series. The art style, we have to admit, looks rather generic for now, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Yes, we’ve seen plenty of that before, but it doesn’t mean it won’t be enjoyable. The character design looks appealing, after all.

After learning the premise of the series and watching the trailer for it, fans couldn’t help but think of other series that Gods’ Game We Play reminds them of.

There are some similarities to Liar Liar, and it’s surprising how much the Gods’ Game We Play’s art style resembles that series’. Some fans also mention Chivalry of a Failed Knight, saying that the designs of the main characters are very similar to those of that anime.

There are at least a couple more anime that fans can think of when they learn about Gods’ Game We Play, but they admit that they don’t mind this premise. Moreover, they enjoy series with various types of games a lot.

However, since the game-focused series are not something new, there has to be something else this new anime will offer, otherwise the entire thing will become highly uninteresting after a few episodes. That’s why Gods’ Game We Play will need compelling characters with great development to keep fans interested.
