Delicious in Dungeon Character Guide: Who Is Kabru and How Important Is He?

Should we love him or hate him?

Summary:

  • The series makes Kabru look like a villain.
  • His party is very different from Laios’ one, but they’re not the bad guys.
  • Your opinion on Kabru will change later.

Although Kabru first appeared in Episode 5 of Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi), we didn’t see much of him and his party back then. However, Episode 14 reintroduces this character into the story and makes you think that he will be important later on.

Another Adventurer

Just like Laios, Marcille and the others, Kabru is also an adventurer. Moreover, he’s the leader of his party, and it shows. He was the one to understand what was going on with the others and deal with the bad guys.

Kabru is curious and analytical, he keeps a lot of information in his head, which makes him a rather dangerous opponent. He knows a little too much about other people and their traits.

Kabru might be kind and caring to his party members, but there’s a cruel and cynical part of him. As we saw in Episode 14, he won’t hesitate to kill those who have wronged him if he thinks it will be better for him and the dungeon.

This character is extremely good when it comes to charming people. And the scariest part is that he is well aware of that. Kabru knows how to get under people’s skin and make them trust him. He won’t shy away from scheming and manipulation.

Future Villain?

Episode 14 makes Kabru look like some sort of villain or at least an opponent of Laios’ party members, so it’s natural to start getting a little bit nervous. Is he going to cause problems for our faves?

The answer is yes and no at the same time. Don’t worry, Kabru is not a villain of the story, but get ready since there will be some misunderstandings between both parties.

Kabru’s party is exceptionally good at politics and dealing with humans. Kabru’s charm and wits make him incredibly qualified for social navigation. However, dealing with monsters is not his strong suit, which has led to his party members dying more than once.

In some ways, Kabru’s party is the opposite of Laios’. Laios and the rest are very awkward when it comes to human interactions, they’re often misunderstood, but there’s no one like them when it comes to dealing with monsters.

All of them know things about the dungeon that help them survive there successfully. Laios is great with monsters, Marcille is a wonderful mage, Chilchuck will help his friends deal with any trap, and Senshi’s knowledge of the dungeon’s ecosystem is surprising.

Kabru is not in the story to make you worry about the main party, he’s there to show you how different the adventurers can be and to introduce some opposition.

But don’t worry, even if you don’t like Kabru for now, you might change your mind later, since once he meets Laios and the others, there will be some character development.
