If Mahito were to survive the current arc, he might become the strongest curse in the series.
There’s also an idea that he was never meant to achieve that due to how arrogant he is.
Jujutsu Kaisen spoilers ahead!
Due to the recent Jujutsu Kaisen anime events, Mahito is quite a hot topic in the fandom. Some are celebrating his defeat, while others have high hopes that the ending scene with Geto offering him help will lead to his survival. We haven’t fully decided which team is closer to us because even though Mahito causes an indescribable amount of hate and despise in us, we can’t help but admit that he is an extraordinarily great character and one of the best villains in the series.
Mahito is an incredible learner
Mahito was an absolute menace. While being a rather young curse, his ability to evolve is admirable. He constantly learns and becomes better and stronger. Every fight Mahito is in teaches him something. He makes logical conclusions and learns from his mistakes as well as from his opponents’ successes.
Gojo’s example of creating a domain expansion of 0.2 seconds made him try to do the same to avoid the fury of Sukuna. With this amount of intelligence and skills Mahito had one of the greatest potentials in Jujutsu Kaisen. But was he meant to become as powerful as Sukuna or Gojo?
Too young or too pathetic?
Fans think that Mahito’s young age was what led to his death. He was just a baby curse after all, and although he’s an extremely fast learner, the time was not enough for him to fully master his technique. The idea is that if he were to survive the Shibuya Incident, he would become the strongest curse in the series except for Sukuna. And who knows, maybe one day he would have the chance to overcome even the King of Curses himself.
Mahito had never suffered defeat before Yuji. His fight with Nanami and Yuji in season 1 was very heated, but he had never been this close to death. This success made him think that he was invincible and couldn’t die, and he was shocked to learn that it wasn’t the truth.
A number of fans suggest that he was never meant to become great, though. His character is just a childish, arrogant entity who has some talent, but is still pathetic. After all, characters tend to show their true selves right before their death, and Mahito’s last moments are not the best ones. He showed his true colors, and it turned out that there was no greatness, just fear and weakness.
