The new Black Butler trailer is here and it might remind you of Harry Potter.
Four houses, each represented by an animal, familiar colors, particular personality traits that match the houses — if you feel like you’ve already seen that somewhere, you might be just right! The new Black Butler trailer aired on September 10th brings back old memories of the beloved children’s books and movies and gets us even more excited for the long-awaited sequel to Black Butler. Let’s dive into this “Victorian Harry Potter” and see what it actually looks like.
The official trailer introduces four public school houses: Scarlet Fox, Sapphire Owl, Green Lion and Violet Wolf. At first sight the system looks exactly like the Hogwarts one. But is it just a Harry Potter rip-off?
Of course not! First of all, the house system is a pretty common thing for British private schools, neither J.K. Rowling nor Yana Toboso invented that. It gives students a sense of belonging and provides a focus for group loyalty. Moreover, the Black Butler houses, while sometimes looking similar to the Harry Potter ones, have their own personality. Let’s have a closer look at each of the houses.
As you can see from the trailer, Scarlet Fox is the house where students of exceptionally high birth gather. Edgar Redmond, being the prefect of the house, looks very noble, but doesn’t really give us a lot of Slytherin vibes, which would be the Hogwarts equivalent for being proud of your birth and blood.
Sapphire Owl house welcomes students who excel academically, and it’s probably the closest Harry Potter look-alike. The main color is blue, the house is represented by a bird and only brilliant students are able to join… Do you feel the Ravenclaw vibes?
Green Lion house is the place where you can find students who excel in martial arts and sports. Even though you can find both — the lion (Gryffindor) and the green color (Slytherin) in Hogwarts houses, Green Lion doesn’t sound like anything out of the Harry Potter series. Although the prefect of the house, Herman Greenhill, could easily be called the anime Draco Malfoy due to his appearance. Just look at him!
And last but not least, Violet Wolf house. The trailer defines this house as a place where students who excel in the arts gather, which hardly resembles any of the Hogwarts houses, and the mysteriously looking prefect, Gregory Violet, makes it even more fascinating.
Of course, for now, we don’t even know the precise air date and it’s too early to speculate on the new season of Black Butler and what it’s gonna look like. What we can say for sure is that Yana Toboso being inspired by something (may we remind you of Book of the Atlantic and Titanic) has never brought us a bad product, so let’s just wait and see what the new chapter of this incredible story will bring us.
