Dungeon Meshi Episode 3 Impresses Fans With Its Monster Creativity

New week, new wonderful episode!

Summary:

  • Episode 3 of Dungeon Meshi is out.
  • There’s some action and fights in the episode.
  • Monsters are incredibly creative in the series.

Delicious in Dungeon (Dungeon Meshi) has been a real treat this season with its unmatched vibe and fascinatingly hilarious characters. Episode 3 is just as good as the previous two. Moreover, it shows another side of the series and impresses fans with new details.

It’s also capable of great action

If you think Dungeon Meshi is only good when it comes to likable characters and nice cooking recipes, think again. Despite the series’ setting and the fact that it’s full of monsters, we didn’t really expect any great action from it, but apparently we were wrong.

The armored “soldiers” fight was exciting, and we finally saw Laios and Senshi in combat. It was also refreshing to see Marcille doing her magic during a fight. While the humor made the entire encounter less frightening, it’s still nice to see a different side of Dungeon Meshi. But the thing that impressed fans the most is the way monsters are handled in the series.

Monsters are very creative

When you hear about anime monsters, you think of something like The Promised Neverland (Yakusoku no Neverland) or Parasyte (Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu) where they are either trying to kill people or… well, trying to kill people. While Dungeon Meshi’s monsters are also quite hostile towards humans, they’re much more creative than those in other series.

If we go back to The Promised Neverland or Parasyte (or even Jujutsu Kaisen or Claymore or Berserk, etc.) what do we see? No matter what they’re called, be it curses or demons, we have scary-looking creatures with various levels of consciousness. We don’t know much about their structures or biologies, they are just there and they pose a threat to humanity.

But Dungeon Meshi is not like that. It pays a lot of attention to its monsters, and the way they live and operate. We are told about their biological structure, and it’s understandable because Dungeon Meshi characters are supposed to cook them, and they need to know how to do it and which parts of a monster are good for a meal.

There are slimes with extremely unusual anatomy, their outer layer consists of digestive fluid, and unlike the common idea about slimes being nothing else but this fluid, Dungeon Meshi ones have brains, lungs and even reproductive organs.

The armor in Episode 3 that looked like magic-created warriors is also not that simple. Laios discovered mollusks inside that are attached to each other like human muscles, allowing them to present as a human hidden inside of the armor.

We can’t wait to see more monsters introduced into the story because all of them are really interesting and creative. And we can’t wait to see our characters cook them, too!
