Weak idea, terrible execution.
Summary:
- Re:Monster is as generic as a fantasy isekai can get.
- There’s nothing appealing in the series.
- Re:Monster failed to entertain even the fans of trashy anime.
Re:Monster is a reincarnation isekai series that started airing on April 5, 2024. It follows Goburou who was reborn as the weakest goblin in a fantasy world, but kept his memories and the ability to gain powers of creatures he consumes.
This Time “Generic” Equals “Bad”
The premise of the series sounds like something you’ve seen plenty of times before, but fans were still ready to give it a chance and see how this story would be handled.
When the first Re:Monster episodes aired, fans were conflicted. The series wasn’t as bad as some could’ve expected, but there was nothing spectacular going on. It’s a generic isekai with some ecchi elements to make it look more appealing to specific audiences. And the anime never went beyond that description.
Re:Monster is as generic as a fantasy isekai can be. There have been a couple of creative ideas, but their execution is far from satisfying. Viewers complain most about the art style, the animation and the pacing, but these are only a few of the issues the anime is having.
It’s Challenging to Find Something Likable in It
The series suffers from the lack of interesting characters and interactions. Viewers admit that they don’t even remember the names of half the cast.
Power-scaling is also one of the weak parts of the anime. Goburou began too strong too early, and now the entire series feels like a mundane journey of a god who faces no struggles. No struggles mean no character development, and trust us, Goburou does need some development.
It’s fair to suggest that Re:Monster is not about any of the aforementioned things then. Perhaps it’s one of the “trashy” series that were never meant to be thought-provoking? Perhaps we should watch it for the ecchi parts?
But viewers admit that Re:Monster is failing to even be a proper ecchi series. Sexual content is not entertaining, it doesn’t add anything to the story apart from making it problematic. It’s no Gushing Over Magical Girls, that’s for sure.
It’s challenging to find something in Re:Monster to grab on. There’s no engaging story or likable characters, the visuals leave much to be desired, the ecchi content is not entertaining, and the worldbuilding barely exists.
A big number of viewers are either forcing themselves to finish the season or dropping the series whatsoever. Not every anime has to be spectacular, but Re:Monster doesn’t even seem that good for a trashy series.
