Noragami manga spoilers ahead!
Summary:
- Noragami manga will end on January 6th.
- One image was leaked and it made fans speculate about the finale.
- It feels like the manga ending gives hope for the further anime adaptation of the series.
In February, the authors of Noragami manga, Adachitoka, announced that it will end this year with Volume 27. On November 1st they said that the story will conclude on January 6th with the release of a 45-page long chapter 109 that would also include some color spreads in the Monthly Shonen Magazine 2024 February issue. If that wasn't enough, one of the pages from the ending was leaked — and it made fans of the series experience joy, disbelief, grief, and many other emotions at the same time.
The bittersweet kiss
Because it features a kiss between Yato and Hiyori — something that we've been waiting for from the very beginning. And the image is beautiful, tender, so the initial thoughts upon seeing it for those who've been rooting for the pair are "Yes, finally!"
But upon further examination, some details start surfacing and the whole outcome seems a bit grim. In the picture, Yato is kissing Hiyori while lying down and says "どうか", which in these circumstances may be translated as some sort of plea. It seems like Yato is asking someone to help, and fans started to speculate that he is either offering himself to save Hiyori or saying goodbye to Hiyori to start a new beginning with Shirone. Another version is that he's somehow trying to revive Hiyori, which has happened in the manga before, but the circumstances still don't seem good. And the blade on the image seems disintegrating, which also adds to suspicions.
However, the fans stay optimistic. Noragami was always a story filled with hope, new beginnings, focused on miracles, friendship, and the power of faith, so people don't believe in an ultimately sad ending. And Adachitoka are great storytellers who showed believable character development, and that gives fans some hope that they wouldn't throw away all that just for the shocking effect. The overall mood is suspicious but hopeful, and fans have studied every pixel of the image to get to this conclusion.
Hope is a powerful weapon
Another side effect of this news is that now Noragami fans are thinking that the anime adaptation may continue. Some of the projects that were on a hiatus have been revived, so the fact that Noragami's manga is ending may be the reason for the animation studios to pick it up once again and adapt the rest.
Truly, if anyone knows what hope is, it's Noragami fans: the story has taught them its power.
