Go! Go! Loser Ranger! Reveals a New Visual: What We Know Right Now

A new anime from the mangaka of The Quintessential Quintuplets is coming this April!

Summary:

  • Go! Go! Loser Ranger! is an upcoming superhero action anime from the mangaka of The Quintessential Quintuplets.
  • The anime is a tribute to the tokusatsu genre, which is mostly exclusive to Japanese live action series.
  • Fans are not happy about the series being a Disney+ exclusive.

Go! Go! Loser Ranger! (Sentai Daishikkaku) is an upcoming anime project by Yostar Pictures. It is an adaptation of an action shounen manga by Negi Haruba — the mangaka of The Quintessential Quintuplets (5-toubun no Hanayome).

The anime will focus on the (mis)adventures of D, a member of the invading alien forces who is trying to destroy the Divine Dragon Rangers from the inside. The reason for that? The alien invaders have been easily defeated and are now forced to put on a show for the public, which always ends with them being defeated. The public just loves the Rangers way too much.

What genre is this anyways?

Go! Go! Loser Ranger is clearly a tribute to the tokusatsu genre. Essentially, this is a Japanese take on superheroes in costumes.

Most popular live action tokusatsu TV series include Kamen Rider and Ultraman, and Western fans may be familiar with Power Rangers — an adaptation of a Japanese franchise called Super Sentai.

We don't see many anime of this genre very often, as it is traditionally limited to live action. The most famous example is Trigger's SSSS.Gridman, which is a throwback to an older live action Gridman series. Sailor Moon is also occasionally considered a part of the genre.

Not a typical work for the author

It might be surprising that an author of a harem manga would venture into this territory, but it makes more sense than you'd think — many authors explored different niches before. Sometimes, it even happens within the same manga. Even popular series like Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) went through many genre shifts.

What do we know right now?

It seems that fans are hyped for Loser Ranger regardless of who its author is, however. The premise is very unusual, and they are excited to see what the anime is going to do with it. The new key visual reminds people of crazy action series like Kill la Kill.

The series also released a new PV — and it looks very solid.

From what can be seen from it, the fights are very stylish, and the anime balances action and comedy pretty well. The trailer also previewed the opening song, which will be done by Tatsuya Kitani (previously in Jujutsu Kaisen S2 and Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War).

However, fans are unhappy about the series being a worldwide Disney+ exclusive. The platform is simply not popular enough, which means that the anime will probably not be a big hit: most fans simply won't be able to watch it legally.
