The finale of Attack on Titan caused a lot of controversy back in 2021, when the manga came to its conclusion. And such a stormy reaction affected the mangaka as well. Isayama seemed very nervous about his own finale, and he wanted the fans to enjoy the story up until the very last page of it. He’s put an incredible amount of love and effort into the series, and we all know that endings are important, so there was immense pressure on the author to provide a satisfying conclusion for everyone. Which, of course, is simply not possible, since expectations and tastes differ.

After all the heated debates the ending generated, Isayama felt the need to apologize to the fans that found it disappointing, and that’s heartbreaking. No matter what the finale is and how you feel about it, the work that Isayama did will remain exceptional, and the popularity and success of Attack on Titan cannot be denied.

Where’s Isayama now?

Now that the anime adaptation has finished airing, fans are much calmer and more forgiving of the finale. The anime ending is mostly loved and praised by the fans, and even the loudest haters seem to be calming down. Fans just want to thank Isayama for his work and they hope that the mangaka can have some rest and peace now that the entire thing is over, and his creation is universally loved and will live on as one of the best manga and anime series ever made.

Feels like Isayama can sleep well now. There is still news about him doing AOT-related stuff. For example, a few days ago we could see him admiring the new illustration book “Fly” that includes 200 pages of colored illustrations curated by Isayama. And last week Hajime Isayama and Yuki Kaji (Eren’s seiyuu) held a commemorative tree planting and unveiling ceremony. We just hope that it’s not going to become the real world equivalent of the Titan Curse tree.

And we can’t also forget about the upcoming “Bad Boy”, which is 18 new manga pages that are going to explore the backstory of one of the Attack on Titan characters. The pages will be released in 2024, and we can’t wait for more news about the project.
