Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren) just started airing last season, but fans already want to know how the story will end. Of course, it’s impossible to know any specifics for now, and we won’t even try to speculate (yet!), but there’s one thing that’s been obvious for a long time, so let’s focus on that.
Fern and Stark
The bond between Frieren, Fern and Stark keeps growing with each episode, and while we can’t help but feel absolutely fascinated and in love with it, it also brings up a couple of sad ideas.
Frieren is an elf, and we don’t even know her exact age, but we can be absolutely sure that she’s over 1000 years old already. After all, should we remind you that 10 years was just a mere moment for our protagonist?
Fern and Stark, on the other hand, are human, which means mortal. And we think you already see where we’re going with this. There will come a moment for these two to pass away, and that moment will arrive hundreds of years before Frieren meets her own end. So where does it lead us?
Frieren will have to experience the deaths of Fern and Stark, and this time it will be more painful for her than the death of Himmel and other members of her party because Frieren knows what bonds are now.
Will there be kids?
But let’s forget the drama for a second and think about Fern and Stark as a couple. There have already been hints at something romantic starting to bloom between these two, and fans are happy to believe it.
It’s still too early to say that Fern and Stark will fall in love and start a family, but we can’t deny the possibility. And if they do become a couple, will they have kids?
They might. And then Frieren will become a kind of grandma for them. Losing Fern and Stark will definitely hurt, and seeing Frieren hurt will hurt fans, too. So the series will have to give us something to heal.
The best idea is to give us Fern and Stark’s children. They will be something that will remind Frieren of her companions and connect them all together even after the inevitable death of Fern and Stark.
It doesn’t matter if Frieren decides to stay with them or if she's on her way, occasionally visiting the kids, it will still work for us. And it will help us mend our hearts after they’ve undeniably been broken.
