How Many Episodes Should the Final Arc of Demon Slayer Be?

There are still debates over the currently airing Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) season. More specifically, people don’t understand how it is a season at all, considering the arc in the manga is just a few chapters long.

Most fans believe the Hashira Training Arc anime will have a bunch of anime-original scenes to compensate for that — while still being shorter than a normal season.

However, the same can’t be said about the next arc, which is supposed to be the final arc in the series. It’s very long in the manga, and definitely won’t fit into a normal season — making fans guess how long it will even be.

How Long Is the Final Arc in the Manga?

The Final Battle Arc is usually split into two smaller arcs — the Infinity Castle Arc and the Sunrise Countdown Arc. Together, they are around 70 chapters long — one third of the entire manga. As such, even two cours won’t be enough for the anime to cover the entire arc.

At the current pace of the anime, it will actually take 3 cours to properly adapt it, more or less. Demon Slayer is definitely not a series that will air 3 consecutive cours, though, and fans are wondering how they will be split.

How Will It Air?

Logically, the Infinity Castle Arc should be 2 cours long, and the rest should cover the Sunrise Countdown Arc. However, viewers express doubts over this split: only the first season of the series was 2 cours, and the rest was released in shorter installments.

Because of this, fans believe the anime will be split into 3 or more parts. If that happens, perhaps they won’t even need to stretch the Sunrise Countdown Arc — while it should roughly be covered by one cour of anime, 10 episodes is a better length for it than the usual 12-13.

Still, splitting the Final Battle Arc into multiple increments will come with its downsides. Otaku already make fun of Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) for its confusing naming scheme. We have Final Season, Final Season Part 2, and Final Season the Final Part (the two specials). With the final arc of Demon Slayer literally being named “Final Battle,” we might get this situation again — which will be funny, yes, but also needlessly confusing.

Some fans believe the final part — the Sunrise Countdown Arc — will be released as one or two movies. Most don’t want this, though, as it would mean waiting for a long time until they are legally available on streaming.
