Will we ever get another season?
Summary:
- The anime adaptation of Classroom of the Elite adapts the first part of the LNs fully.
- The series sold well, and there is a chance for a sequel — but don’t bet on it just yet.
- If you want to read further content, you’d have to re-read it from the start, as the anime glosses over some plot points.
For how popular the Classroom of the Elite (Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e) light novels are, the last season of the anime was definitely not talked about enough. There’s a good reason for it, though, but it has nothing to do with the adaptation diverging from the storyline.
In fact, the third season ended pretty conclusively — so, does the anime adapt the full story, and if not, are there chances for a sequel? All these questions can be answered, though for some, the answers are more complicated.
The Anime Adapts the First Part in Its Entirety
The light novels for Classroom of the Elite are split into two parts. The first is finished at 14 volumes and covers the first school year of the characters. The second, as expected, covers the second year and is currently being published.
Fans expect the third part to cover the third year at some point in the future.
The anime feels complete because it adapts the first 14 volumes fully — the end of the first year is seen as a stopping point. After that, if we ever get a sequel, it’ll be covering the second year. That said, fans aren’t exactly optimistic.
The Anime Was Mostly Well-Received
The first season of Classroom of the Elite had mostly positive reception, while the second and third had somewhat mixed opinions from the light novel readers. The reason for that is simple: the second and third seasons are faster-paced and rush through some content, upsetting the fans.
That said, anime-only viewers were still mostly satisfied with it. While Ayanokouji is a controversial protagonist (understandable, why, since his behavior is outright psychopathic sometimes), it’s really easy to get invested in the anime because of him.
What About Further Content?
As for a potential sequel, it’s hard to say yet. S2 and S3 both had very good sales, and the light novels are still popular in Japan. There’s a good chance the second year arcs will be adapted at some point in the future, though we can’t speculate on the exact date yet, as it hasn’t even been announced.
If you’re wondering what to do after finishing the anime, light novel fans recommend reading the light novels from the beginning. The anime (and the manga adaptation as well) skips some content, and the manga for the first year isn’t even finished yet. The anime might be a good adaptation, but it’s not a perfect one.
