Would it be better to just read the manga?
Summary:
- Chained Soldier is an ecchi anime.
- The adaptation stays true to manga for the most part.
- There are still a few things that weren’t adapted.
The question of censorship is especially strong when it comes to gory or sexual anime, and Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave) has harem and ecchi among its genres, so you probably see where this is going.
The excitement for the upcoming anime adaptation went along with worries of manga readers because they know how explicit Chained Soldier can get, and we don’t even need to mention how much fans usually hate censorship.
A good adaptation?
Surprisingly, the series has been very faithful to the source material so far. It doesn’t shy away from showing nudity and violence, and most of the slave rewards are there.
Fans were even surprised by the foot scene (if you know, you know) that was in one episode, mentioning that they didn’t expect it to be so close to the manga and portrayed the way the anime did.
A couple of things are already cut out
Still, there are some changes that fans have noticed. For example, Chapter 2 of the manga features another reward that was cut out of the adaptation. Fans thought that the anime might have changed the timeline a bit and that it would come later, but it never happened. And they don’t think it will now.
Manga readers are talking about a candy scene where Kyouka gives it to Yuuki and explains that his reward depends on how much work he’s done. When he is especially helpful, the reward is bigger, but when his achievements are lacking, he does not deserve a proper reward.
This makes Yuuki want to try harder and the next time there’s a candy again, but the scene gets much more explicit when Kyouka puts the said candy into her mouth and kisses Yuuki afterwards. There is also a further development to this scene where Kyouka gets undressed, but let’s leave it at that.
Apart from the fact that a lot of fanservice was taken from the series, fans are also disappointed by the lack of explanation that this scene provided in the manga. They still think that the rules of being a slave and the rewards will be explained later in the anime, but why not do it the way the manga did it?
Manga readers are also confident that more rewards will be cut out from the series in the future, since they can get a bit extreme. While they understand why it has to be done, they can’t help but feel a little bit upset about it.
