Pochita has always been one of the most mysterious characters in Chainsaw Man. We don’t really know much about this cute little devil, but the things we do know are often controversial. We know that he always wanted physical contact and he himself admits that a hug is all he needed. Sounds cute, doesn’t it? And it seems that Pochita truly cares for Denji. Such a nice guy, are we right?
But then we remember that he is a devil and capable of going on a murder spree if he doesn’t like something, and we’re not so sure about him anymore. So, who is Pochita really?
There are three main theories, and if we try to explain them in simple terms, they are: Pochita good, Pochita bad, Pochita not good not bad. While him being a good devil who’s trying to get redemption and become someone good sounds very romantic, we shall never forget that it’s Fujimoto and Chainsaw Man we’re talking about, so there’s hardly any chance of seeing Pochita turning into a hero we’ve always wanted. Seeing him turn evil, on the other hand, is a more probable option.
Are we being fooled?
What if he’s just pretending to like Denji and he’s going to betray the man in the end? Maybe Pochita just wanted to toy with him or take his body? Or maybe Pochita is the real danger, and Makima along with other horsemen and the Gun Devil will seem like harmless little kids next to Pochita. Sounds rather cruel, but we can never exclude this possibility.
Pochita might become a false messiah who brings peace to the world for a while, but misery afterwards. And now he’s just hiding his true self to wreak havoc and bring desperation to humankind later.
The more probable option is, though, that Pochita just doesn’t care about being good or evil. Everything he cares for is Denji. So if Denji wants to help people, Pochita will help people; if Denji wants to get a girlfriend and live happily ever after with her, Pochita will do everything he can for his friend to achieve this goal; and if Denji wants to destroy the entire world, Pochita will be onboard with that decision, too. He’s a devil, after all, and he doesn’t really care about people. Denji is the only one that matters, and Pochita will follow him until the very end.
