Is Death Parade An Overrated Or Simply Misunderstood Anime?

Some people think this anime is one of the best, others think it's too overrated. But what is it really?

Death Parade spoilers ahead!

Death Parade is a psychological thriller based on the animated short film Death Billiards. The action takes place in a seemingly unremarkable bar on one of the floors of the tower, where people arrive who do not remember anything about their lives and how they got there. The bar manager and bartender Deсim invites visitors to play a game where their lives are at stake.

During the game, people remember their lives, and their true personal qualities are revealed. After the game is over, Decim decides who will go into oblivion and who is worthy of reincarnation.

Almost all episodes have a complete story, with the exception of the general narrative as a whole about the working system of such bars, each of which has its own arbitrator, as well as the story of the Woman with Black Hair (later we learn that her name is Chiyuki), who got into the bar, remembering her life, and therefore they could not condemn her and left her as Deсim's assistant.

It is Chiyuki's story that is revealed at the end, which is one of the most dramatic and powerful moments of the anime. Some fans claim that Chiyuki's scenes even made them cry. But not all fans agree with this assessment of the ending. Some believe that the life and cause of death were too simple for such a character, even in comparison with the stories of some other visitors.

Many viewers also note that they get tired of watching after the second or third episode, since the characters are quite boring, and the stories of visitors do not catch attention and do not evoke any emotions.

But one of the key points that upsets people who watch the anime is the lack of a well-written judging system, as well as the not fully developed minor characters appearing in the story, such as Nona, the bar manager and Deсim's boss, Ginti, also the manager of one of the bars, Oculus, whose identity remains completely unclear.

Some fans, of course, defend the anime and say that the secrets of this entire system are the highlight of this work, since the viewer is given a chance to think for themselves how this world works.

So, despite the fact that the anime has both fans and people who, for various reasons, did not like this story so much, the anime still deserves attention even almost 10 years after its release.
