Watch in a movie theater or wait for the digital release?
Summary:
Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training is out internationally.
There isn’t much new content in the movie.
A number of fans call the movie a simple cash grab.
Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training (Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hashira Geiko-hen) is finally out internationally, and you can already get your tickets. But the question is: should you?
What is ‘To the Hashira Training’?
The most upsetting thing about the new movie is that… it’s not actually new. To the Hashira training includes the last two episodes of the previous season, Swordsmith Village, and the first episode of the upcoming one. Which means that you’ll only get 20-something minutes of new content and will be forced to watch about 50 minutes of something you’ve already seen before.
There will be a new opening theme, though, so at least that’s good. And we can all agree that watching an anime in a movie theater is not like watching it at home on your couch. But the fact remains: there won’t be much new content.
Just a cash grab?
That’s why a lot of Demon Slayer fans are highly unsatisfied with the movie. Not with its quality, of course, it’s ufotable we’re talking about after all, but with the fact that it’s a somewhat recap project.
Which leads to the main question: why does it exist then? They could have made an actual movie out of the Hashira Training Arc, since fans have been saying for ages that there isn’t enough content in this manga arc for an entire season, but it would be great for a movie.
Or ufotable could have included two first episodes of Season 4 to give fans more new content. Or hold an early premiere of them without featuring the previous season’s episodes.
All of that makes fans use the phrase “cash grab” when they’re speaking about the new Demon Slayer movie. It doesn’t give fans much, but it does take their money.
Demon Slayer is an immensely popular anime series, so it’s obvious that fans are going to see it in the theater. And the first weekend already proved that: the screening of Hashira Training debuted at #2 in the US box office.
While fans are happy for the success of their favorite series, they can’t help but feel upset about Hashira Training not being an actual movie.
On top of that, it seems that some of the fans who went to see the movie didn’t even know what it was going to be like. They heard “Demon Slayer” and “movie” and just booked their tickets. Imagine their disappointment when they learned the truth!
