He has a lot to learn, that’s for sure.
Summary:
- Megumi gives the impression of a weak character.
- It’s false, though, and even Sukuna himself sees great potential in him.
- Megumi holds back because he keeps doubting himself.
Despite being part of the main Jujutsu Kaisen trio, Megumi doesn’t initially look like the most important character. He keeps losing and getting defeated. His first encounter with Sukuna almost cost him his life, even though Sukuna wasn’t at his best back then.
Still, Sukuna did see great potential in Megumi, and it was hinted at multiple times that the King of Curses had some sort of a grandiose plan for this sorcerer. And manga readers know that these are not just meaningless clues. But we’re not here to spoil anything today.
Nevertheless, Megumi feels rather weak for such a hyped character. It’s been two seasons and while Megumi did his best during them, other characters just feel more important and more powerful. It feels like even Yuji, who’s a newbie sorcerer, can beat Megumi if he tries to.
He’s stronger than he looks
Despite many failures, Megumi is also capable of showing how strong he is. He managed to defeat a special grade curse in Season 1. He’s the only one of the main trio who has a domain expansion. It is unfinished, yes, but it’s still a big deal for a sorcerer, and even Nanami, who’s a Grade 1, didn’t have one.
Moreover, Megumi is one of Gojo’s students, and that needs to mean something. Gojo might not be the best teacher out there, but his power is so immense that his students have only one option: to strive to be like him.
He needs to be more confident
Fans think that Megumi appears to be weaker than he actually is due to the lack of his self-confidence. He keeps doubting himself, that’s why he holds back. But when it’s necessary or when he has no other choice, he is capable of becoming a true menace.
When Megumi unleashes his true potential, it’s time for the curses to run. And the aforementioned special grade curse is an amazing proof of that. He handled it alone, without anyone’s help, and managed to become the victor.
On top of that, he’s the only student with a domain, except for Yuta. But Yuta has always been an exception, and we can’t really compare these two.
Besides, we can’t forget how Megumi held his domain during the Dagon fight and it was exactly what allowed everyone to survive that fight. He definitely needs more practice and self-confidence, but weak is the last thing he can be called.
