Oshi no Ko is an immensely popular manga and anime series written by Aka Akasaka who you might also know as the author of Kaguya-sama: Love Is War. And fans were greatly enjoying both the source material and the adaptation for quite some time. But this has started changing recently.
It’s Receiving a Lot of Criticism
The Oshi no Ko manga is criticized more and more with each new chapter. First there was the Ruby and Aqua romance controversy that fans still can’t let go of, and now they openly admit that they aren’t enjoying the series as much as before.
The currently ongoing Movie Arc of the manga brings little excitement to the readers, and they keep finding flaws in the storytelling and narrative decisions.
The revenge plot that the manga began with hasn’t been explored that well, and fans can’t help but feel upset about that. The hints at the romance between Ruby and Aqua are questionable, and a lot of readers detest even the idea of it.
Will It Repeat Kaguya-sama’s Mistakes?
Fans are now getting worried that Oshi no Ko will follow in Kaguya-sama’s footsteps and become a complete disappointment in the finale.
They will never forget the famous helicopter scene from Kaguya-sama. Aka Akasaka used to complain about poor tropes in various series, but in his own manga, Kaguya just falls off a cliff and lands on a helicopter rope ladder, when in reality the helicopter blades should’ve cut her body into pieces.
There are worries that Oshi no Ko will have something like this helicopter scene. No one wants the finale to be full of illogical decisions and moments added to the manga just for the sake of adding them. Oshi no Ko set the bar pretty high straight from the beginning, that’s why expectations are tremendous.
Still, a number of fans think that Kaguya-sama was disappointing in its final arc because Aka was too busy with Oshi no Ko. There hasn’t been any news about other projects by the author being in the works, so nothing should distract him from the series this time.
However, all of that might be just the calm before the storm. It’s too early to get completely disappointed, since there’s always time to improve the story. For now we just have to get through the movie arc and see what the series will bring us next.
