Jujutsu Kaisen Announced the Culling Game Arc Anime Adaptation: A Movie or a Season?

Season 2 finished airing, but we’ve got something else to look forward to.

Summary:

  • The last episode of JJK Season 2 has just aired.
  • A new JJK project has been announced.
  • It will adapt the Culling Game Arc.
  • There’s no information if it’s going to be an anime season or something else.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is finally over! We know the series has had a lot of issues and controversies for the past couple of months, but it managed to survive and impress us with its cruelty and beauty.

With something as big as Jujutsu Kaisen, a sequel was just a matter of time, so MAPPA decided not to keep it a secret and announced a new JJK project!

Culling Game Arc is coming

Culling Game Arc is going to be adapted into an anime. MAPPA announced this after the second season of the anime finished with a small teaser for the upcoming project.

The teaser doesn’t really show much, only a couple of our faves such as Kenjaku, Choso, Megumi, Yuta and our man Yuji himself. This looks like an early animated draft for now, but this is understandable, the project is hardly in the works now, considering all the conversations about Season 2 episodes being finished hours before the release.

A season or a movie?

Why do we keep saying “project”, though? It hasn’t been revealed whether the Culling Game will be the next season of Jujutsu Kaisen or a full-length movie. With the recent love of animation studios for movies, both options are possible.

However, fans are placing their bets on another season. They say the Culling Game Arc is too big to become a movie, since it’s 60+ chapters long. And we’ve also got a couple of smaller manga arcs before this one, so it would be impossible to put all the events into one movie.

Still, it can be two movies or two big episodes, like MAPPA did for the Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) finale, we don’t know for now.

Fans truly hope that the Culling Game will be a proper season, though. While movies are fun, too, they prefer just watching a series at home with a couple of snacks instead of going to the cinema.

Would you like the new project to be a season or a movie?

The main expectation for the Culling Game anime for now is for MAPPA’s animators to have some rest and come back to working on Jujutsu Kaisen with fresh minds and restocked energy. It’s one of these rare occasions when anime fans are actually ready to wait.

There’s hope that MAPPA has learned from their previous production issues, and will treat the sequel of Jujutsu Kaisen appropriately. We all know what magnificent masterpieces this studio can produce when given enough time and resources, and everyone wants the JJK adaptation to keep shining.
