The leaks for Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 257 are finally out, and it’s just a few days until the chapter is officially released. There are some really exciting things going on in this chapter, but the one that surprised fans the most was the confirmation of a theory that’s been around for a while.
Sukuna Is Yuji’s “Uncle”
At the beginning of Chapter 257, Sukuna has a conversation with Uraume about Yuji. Uraume is puzzled by Yuji’s strength and his natural talent for sorcery, that’s why they’re interested in the boy’s origins.
Sukuna confirms that he did eat his twin brother in their mother’s womb in order to avoid starvation. But this only got rid of the twin’s body, not his soul, leaving him a chance at reincarnation.
Sukuna’s twin brother got reincarnated later and became… Yuji’s father, Jin Itadori! Which means that Sukuna and Yuji are actually somewhat related. It makes him a bizarre uncle to the sorcerer.
Moreover, we know that Kenjaku was possessing the body of Yuji’s mother at the time of conception, which makes Yuji quite a unique child: he’s connected to not just one, but two extremely powerful curse users.
Such a reveal explains a lot about Yuji’s natural talents. Of course he’s a fast learner, and of course jujutsu is a piece of cake for him. With a “family tree” like that, it couldn’t have gone any other way.
Fans Knew It
This theory has been around for quite some time, but back then, fans thought that Yuji wasn’t just somewhat connected to Sukuna’s twin brother, but was his reincarnation. Yuji and Sukuna both have similar looks and pink hair, so Kenjaku seemed to have chosen the Itadori family for a reason.
On top of that, Sukuna once made a weird comment about Yuji coming from “that time,” and fans thought he was talking about the Heian Era, meaning that Yuji was a reincarnation of someone who existed back then.
Basically, there were small hints here and there that Sukuna and Yuji were related, and those speculations turned out to be true, but just not in exactly the same way fans thought.
It’s still unclear whether this reveal serves only the purpose of explaining Yuji’s powers or if it’s going to have more consequences in the future. In Chapter 257, Yuji can also use Sukuna’s cursed technique, Shrine, so there might be more coming.
Fans expect another chapter focusing on Yuji’s origins and Sukuna’s twin brother. We don’t know if we’ll actually get it, but we genuinely hope to learn more.
