Leaking culture is getting worse.
Summary:
- Leaks are a sore spot for the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom.
- There have been minor and major mistranslations in them.
- They ruin the manga hype.
Fans’ opinions on Jujutsu Kaisen leaks vary: some absolutely detest them for spoiling everything before the official release, and some enjoy engaging in fun discussions a few days earlier.
But no matter what your opinion on the leaks is, it’s hard to deny that they have influenced the fandom a lot. They’ve become a weird Thursday tradition, and some readers are even more excited about the leaks than the actual chapters.
Issues With the Leaks
Apart from the obvious spoiler issues, there have been others. And translation is one of the biggest.
Several weeks ago, when Chapter 257 leaks were revealed, there was a major mistranslation that led to an immense misinformation outbreak. Due to a translation error, fans thought that Yuji was the reincarnation of Sukuna’s twin brother, whom the King of Curses ate in their mother’s womb.
The leaker fixed their mistake pretty quickly, but it was still too late. The news spread like wildfire, and half the fandom was discussing the fake reveal.
Fans are so used to leaks by now so they tend to trust them fully. After all, leaks always feature actual manga panels, and most Western readers can read or speak Japanese, so they just trust the leakers blindly.
They Ruin the Experience
But the translation is not even the only issue. Chapter 257 is not special, other leaks are spreading with the speed of lighting, too. And Chapter 259 was another proof.
We haven’t seen Todo for quite some time in the manga, so his comeback was a major thing. It would’ve been so exciting to learn about his appearance in the chapter when the time was right, but leakers denied fans this pleasure.
The first post the leaker made back then was about Todo’s comeback, so it didn’t make even half the impact it was supposed to make when it actually happened.
Moreover, mere seconds after the post had been made, everyone started sharing the news online, so you had plenty of chances to start your X (formerly Twitter) app and find out about Todo the moment the page finished loading.
Basically, leaks are not just annoying for some readers, they’re also all over the place. There are tiny (or major, as it was for Chapter 257) errors, they’re presented in weird ways and they completely ruin the hype for the series.
