Jujutsu Kaisen: Megumi’s Mahoraga Is Wasted Potential

Jujutsu Kaisen: Megumi’s Mahoraga Is Wasted Potential

There were so many things that could be done with it.

Manga spoilers ahead!

Summary:

  • Mahoraga is the strongest shikigami that can be summoned by Ten Shadows Technique.
  • It wasn’t as relevant for the story as fans expected.
  • Mahoraga could have been a great way to explore Megumi’s powers.

Mahoraga is one of the shikigami that can be summoned with the use of Megumi’s Ten Shadows Technique. It’s an incredibly powerful being and the strongest of all the shadows, practically impossible to tame.

Mahoraga can be summoned with the famous last words… uhh… we mean, by the incantation that goes like "With this treasure, I summon..." but the most interesting thing is that you have to defeat it to tame it and be able to use it.

Mahoraga Feels Out of Place

When a being as powerful as Mahoraga is in the story, you really expect it to be a crucial point, but Jujutsu Kaisen didn’t explore the shikigami properly. A number of fans consider adding Mahoraga to the series as one of Megumi’s shadows very random.

All the other shadows resembled animals, had various levels of power but nothing extraordinary was going on with them. And then we have Mahoraga, who is basically a god capable of destroying anything else on its way.

Of course, Mahoraga gave us a couple of exciting events, such as its battle with Sukuna, which was one of the most intense and epic fights during the Shibuya Incident Arc.

Sukuna also used Mahoraga to defeat Gojo, and it makes a lot of sense for him to do so, but this is when the shikigami’s influence on the story ends, and fans wanted something more. Something exciting.

He Could Have Been Used to Show Megumi’s Powers

The biggest missed opportunity with Mahoraga was that it never really fought with Megumi. Jujutsu Kaisen has been trying to make Megumi look special for a long time. It’s hinted that he has the potential to be a Gojo rival, Sukuna always had big plans for him, he was hyped up.

Imagine Megumi fighting Mahoraga and unleashing immense powers on him. It would be such an incredible way to show Megumi’s true worth and prove all of the hints about his “potential.”

Megumi would definitely need a lot of abilities to tame Mahoraga. So that would also create a lot of opportunities to show how he can master all the other shadows and perhaps even finish his Domain Expansion.

But the story never went this way and missed a great chance to show us something exciting with Mahoraga and develop Megumi a bit more. There’s still hope that this topic will be explored more in the final chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen, but we have to admit, this hope is really bleak.
