Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has just announced its digital release scheduled for March 20, 2024, and the series has some exciting news.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is coming to theaters

In addition to Episode 17, which will receive some changes and extra content, there will be special screenings of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 in theaters in Japan. They will feature episodes 17, 18, 19 and 20, and the screenings will start on March 29, 2024 and last for one week.

This means that the theatrical version of the season will start with the Sukuna vs Mahoraga episode, then feature the Nanami and Nobara death episodes and end with Yuji and Todo fighting Mahito. However, Mahito’s defeat is in Episode 21, so if you’ve always wanted to see the most hated JJK character on a big screen, you’re out of luck.

Reaction to this news is rather mixed. There’s a lot of hype about anything Jujutsu Kaisen-related of course, and it’s more than obvious that thousands of fans are going to see the episodes in a theater, especially now that they know Episode 17 will receive a makeover.

However, anime fans are getting rather tired of constant cash grabs and recap movies. They were frustrated by the Demon Slayer: To The Hashira Training movie, since it barely had any new content, and the Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 screenings will have even less.

Jujutsu Kaisen is an immensely popular anime series, and we can be absolutely confident that it will be successful in theaters. They can basically show anything about JJK, and people will still go watch it.

This is exactly what makes fans so upset. The animation studios and companies know that they can do it and it will work, so they keep releasing the old content to make money.

Still, watching an anime in a theater is nothing like doing it at home, it’s a completely different experience, that’s why a lot of fans are genuinely excited about the screenings. They don’t care if they’ve already seen all the episodes, they want to do it again on a big screen.

Fans are also curious if the updated version of the episodes (and especially Episode 17) will be available on streaming services after the theatrical release. Unfortunately, we don’t know yet. However, viewers highly doubt that it will ever happen.
