Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 21: A Moment We’ve All Been Waiting for

Mahito stans, are you okay?

New Jujutsu Kaisen episode spoilers ahead!

Summary:

  • Mahito is one of the most hated villains in Jujutsu Kaisen.
  • Yuji defeats Mahito in the newest episode.
  • There’s still a chance of Mahito’s survival.

So, Mahito. We’re not even going to pretend that this piece is about something else. We have been waiting for someone to teach him a lesson and make him regret the horrendous deeds he’s committed even a little bit. And the moment has finally arrived.

Mahito tries to be hated so much

Back in Season 1 when Mahito was first introduced, we realized that he was a force to be reckoned with. Despite his lack of experience back then, he was learning incredibly fast, and even after the first fight with him, Nanami predicted that Mahito would soon learn the Domain expansion. And he was absolutely right. The ending of the first cour of the season proved that and almost killed Nanami in the process.

But Mahito’s skills and powers are not the first thing that comes to mind when we’re speaking about him. It’s his actions and personality. The way he cleverly manipulated Junpei and killed him later on shocked a lot of fans back then. Especially after the opening of the first season baited them into thinking that Junpei’s story would resolve in a happy ending. And Mahito just kept getting worse with time. He constantly makes fun of Yuji and enjoys seeing him suffer. And we cannot forget Nobara and Nanami. How cruel was that?

Finally some retribution

Although Episode 21 does everything to make you think that it’s time to say goodbye to Todo, and Yuji is going to just suffer more, the retribution finally comes. The Mahito fight was intense and sitting on the edge of our seats was extremely difficult due to the constant sweating, but we managed.

The scene of Mahito being defeated and shocked was phenomenal. Yuji admitting that they are, indeed, the same and promising to kill Mahito, no matter how far he would run and no matter how many times he would come back, makes all types of shivers go down your spine. The following scene with Mahito trying to escape in the snow was executed materfully. The beauty and horror that this moment combines is astonishing. Poor rabbit, though.

Is he really dead, though?

Unfortunately, the satisfaction that this punishment was bringing us was interrupted by “Geto” offering to save Mahito, but we don’t lose hope to see him dealt with in the next episode. Nevertheless, it’s also a bit upsetting since Mahito has always been one of the greatest Jujutsu Kaisen villains. He’s hated, that’s for sure, but he was intended to be that way, and we can’t deny that he brought a lot of excitement to the series.

Does Mahito deserve to die?
