Junichi Suwabe is Very Good at Playing Anime Villains, and Here Are 5 More of His Roles (Yes, Sukuna is on the List)

One thing is clear: he always plays amazing characters!

Junichi Suwabe is a Japanese voice actor and a good enough reason to watch anime with subs.

Do you ever have this moment when you’re watching a series, and a voice sounds familiar to you? Then you google it, and wow! This actor has played in plenty of series before. How could you not know that?

This is exactly what has happened to us recently with Junichi Suwabe, and we’d like to remind you of some of his outstanding roles.

  1. Sukuna — Jujutsu Kaisen

It would be unfair not to start with this one because Sukuna is the current reason why you know this voice so well. Sinister, cold-hearted villains are what Junichi Suwabe is incredible at.

His calm voice goes well with Sukuna’s bored personality. It’s just as fascinating when it’s time to wreak havoc, maniacally laugh or threaten someone with mutilation and demise.

  1. Lügner — Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Sousou no Frieren)

“Wait, that’s also him?”. Yes, that’s also him.

Lügner is another wonderful example of seemingly calm villains that can become true monsters in a matter of seconds. We guess Junichi Suwabe is just really great at playing non-human entities who can kill you even with their eyes closed.

Just like Sukuna, Lügner is capable of appearing reserved and detached one moment, and absolutely furious and frightening the next one. What’s that if not the beauty of voice acting!

  1. Undertaker — Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji)

We can’t exactly call Undertaker a proper villain because he used to help Sebastian and Ciel with a couple of cases, but we all remember the Luxury Liner Arc where he was the main antagonist.

This character is more quirky than Sukuna or Lügner, but there’s still some resemblance. The way he laughs and giggles can send shivers down your spine. And if you’re watching Black Butler after you’ve finished Jujutsu Kaisen, you’ll hear familiar mischievous notes in Undertaker’s voice.

  1. Tensen — Hell’s Pradise (Jugokuraku)

This time Junichi Suwabe had to play several villains at once. The Seven Tensen all have various forms, and while the female ones are played by Yuuko Kaida, all the male ones are by Suwabe, and fans usually get shocked when they learn about that.

But yes, all of them are played by one person, and if you listen carefully, you will recognize your beloved threatening notes.

  1. Victor — Yuri!!! on Ice

We decided to add Victor to show you that Junichi Suwabe is fairly capable of playing good guys, too. If you want to say “No, he didn’t”, we understand. Still, yes, he did in fact voice Victor.

Although there’s nothing frightening about Victor, you can still hear the same mischief in his voice that all the aforementioned villains have. Victor’s voice is definitely one of the reasons why we love him so much, and we thank Junichi Suwabe for that.
