Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demons That Won Our Hearts

Frightening but appealing?

Demon Slayer spoilers ahead!

Although the name of the anime itself, Demon Slayer, suggests that the series focuses on defeating demons, these dark creatures can’t help but end up being extremely popular and loved by the fans. So why not take a look at some of them and discuss why they have become so dear to us?

When asked about their favorite demons from the series, one of the first characters fans mention is Akaza. Even though he hasn’t gotten much attention in the anime yet, manga readers promise anime onlys that they ARE going to love him. Akaza was born into a poor family and hardship is not just a word for him, his life has never been easy. He believes in the importance of hard work and determination and enjoys a good fight, especially when he considers his opponent worthy.

Next daunting creature on our list is Doma. Just like Akaza, this demon hasn’t blessed us with a lot of anime screen time for now, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t read the source material and fall in love with him. Immense powers and sadistic tendencies make him quite enticing to hundreds of fans, ‘cause let’s be honest, we’re not always here for the good guys. Seemingly calm and charismatic, this demon has psychopathic tendencies and is no stranger to murdering innocents brutally. Doma also takes pleasure in manipulating and torturing his opponents.

Kokushibo is next on our list. Stoicism and discipline are the words that come to mind when we think of Kokushibo. Being the Upper Rank One, he possesses colossal power, and there’s hardly a warrior that can fight this demon and stay unharmed. The cold aura of severity, dignity and reservation envelops Kokushibo, making him a dangerous opponent.

It’s impossible to talk about Gyutaro and Daki separately, because of how intertwined their lives are. These siblings have a tragic yet beautiful story. Always trying to protect each other, they can be ruthless and cruel while doing so. Some fans provide us with an elegant observation: they say Daki hates all things ugly but loves Gyutaro, while her brother detests beauty but cherishes his sister. These siblings’ bond might seem twisted and bizarre but it’s not void of charm and care.

And last but not least, Rui. This demon was the first of the current Twelve Kizuki that Tanjiro encountered. Rui seems aloof and collected at first, but later shows the immense anger and disappointment he carries inside. The demon is deeply disturbed and he longs for close bonds and desires to have a family so much that he creates one for himself. But nothing is able to replace the real connection for him, which annoys Rui to no end, so he keeps getting rid of the ones not able to play their family roles perfectly.
