There are good things, too.
Boruto is commonly claimed as “an unsatisfying sequel” in the Naruto fandom. Fans love bashing it about for every little flaw and saying how much it’s worse than the original series.
But it doesn’t mean that it’s completely terrible. There are actually a lot of great things about Boruto, and we’d like to talk about some of them.
- Boruto himself
Fans agree that Boruto is what makes the story stand out. He’s not a typical naive shounen protagonist, who lacks intelligence and has a tragic backstory. He’s smart and unique, he’s capable of surprising readers and viewers with non-trivial decisions.
And most importantly, Boruto is not just Naruto 2.0, he’s his own character with his own motivations and ideals.
- Naruto and Sasuke
Of course, it’s always nice to see some familiar faces, and Naruto and Sasuke are really great in the sequel, too. Watching them interact with their children and families (especially Sasuke and his daughter) does weird things to fans’ hearts.
Both of them have undergone significant character development, but haven’t lost their charm. They still need each other, and watching them interact is both entertaining and nostalgic.
- The Series Isn’t Afraid of Being Dark
Fans have noticed that some parts of the story are a great combination of darkness and positivity, and they’re enjoying it a lot. Sometimes Boruto gets really dark and raises sinister issues like having to kill your own children.
Of course, no one wants the series to turn into a complete horror story with nothing left but suffering, but a little darkness never hurt anyone.
- It Handles a Big Cast Masterfully
There are truly a lot of characters in Boruto, but the series manages to pay attention to most of them. Fans thought that some side characters in Naruto were much less likable than the main cast, but Boruto is trying hard to deal with this issue.
There’s a lot of development happening in and outside of the fights, and the series just gives more characters their time to shine.
- It’s Not a Naruto Rip-Off
Boruto has its own lore with unique conflicts and characters. Even though the entire thing started as a way to prolong the Naruto experience, it still doesn’t feel like a mindless clone of the original series.
Naruto and Boruto’s stories have nothing in common, and even the way the plot is presented to readers and viewers is different.
